Is seeing a supercar even special any more? Way before C&C was a thing seeing a Supercar was an occassian, now it’s not really anymore.

Kinja'd!!!

Sure seeing 7 figure supercar or Hypercar is a special occassian, but Huracan, Avenator, 458, 488, GT3RS is meh. Limited production cars (Carrera GT, 05/06 Ford GT, F40, etc) for me are grouped with high dollar / hypercars.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

When I saw plain Huracan street parked in winter, on dirty nasty roads that was an occassian. Seeing a 488gtb at the track was expected, but still special. It was been driven like it was meant to be.

I’ll admit I grew up in small no so rich farming town, so seeing any luxury car was special (Audi, Cadillac, BMW, etc). It was mostly trucks, domestic cars, & Japanese economy cars. Seeing a 911 parked on Main strip, the whole town know they where from the city (aka Toronto). Nobody who lived in town & surrounding areas had such cars.

Right now is great time to be car enthusiast, so many good cars are out. At the same time I think enthusiasts desensitized with all the cars. There are so many now that they are not special.

I would love ramble on more, but this VINwiki explains what I was going to go on about. Mostly the points on new and/or young money.

I don’t think there’s a single Modern Porsche that I’d so much as cross the street to get a better look at. The number of old dudes in their GT34 56RSTUV-whatevers that show up at every single car show around here.... Oh man. Snooze

A mint 944 turbo S on the other hand.... Be still my beating heart. Or even more rare... A safari or rally prepped 911. That works too.

Excellent question

For me to be special it needs to be a mclaren/pagani/koenigsegg, Ferrari Lamborghini etc aren’t special nowadays (ford gt and Dodge Challenger are due to not available in rhd from factory)

Even I venture to say mint 996 Turbo, they are getting low enough in price that it's not just old people buying them. The owners have interesting stories with them.

Maybe the LaFerrari, & Aperta versions. Also the specal edition Lambo & pre VW Lambos. The 570 I would not consider special, it would have to be a P1 or Senna to be special.

I am somewhat in your camp I lived in Miami for a little bit  and it was like super cars everywhere. I realized how decensitized I was to them when I went to a restaurant and they had a gallardo on the front drive and was just like oh whatever, just a gallardo.

Gotta be a 7 figure thing to really seem special anymore. The rest are show-off fodder for the local tech/financebro set and devilspawn of residency-purchasing capital parkers and money launderers.  The area where I live has jaded me.

Back in the day, it took a lot less to impress - I still remember seeing my first Ferrari 328, 928, Countach, etc. Today I can see a 488GTB/911 Turbo/Huracan and kind of shrug my shoulders. Of course, I am the type who would turn my head and stare at a Renault Fuego.

Mass produced supercars. Key term. Anything near 200 mph thats built as long as theres interest isnt special today. With over 8,000 Huracans produced, theyre not special. They only made 11k 924 turbos....but if they made only 1200.. .or the style was high and the numbers have rotted away over time, t hen theres intetest.

Id fawn more over a Citroen SM today than a still in production supercar built in numbers. They may be into cars but sometimes i just see a money show instead.

Even a 918? I still appreciate them, more then any other super car or hyper car.

Porsches are everywhere here, even older ones. But I did see a Diablo today so that was cool

For me, those three were what ushered in the e ra of supercars being a dime-a-dozen, with everyone and their mother making one. They’re still cool, but the OG hybrid h yper cars seem like the last major upgrade over the previous generation

I'm not sure which of the three I like most. Hopefully they're all together at some point once the local Redmond Exotic Show starts up again in the spring

Oddly enough the number of Lamborghinis I see around here has dropped dramatically, even as Ferraris have become a daily thing.

Still don't think I've seen a Countach (on road)

Don’t see those everyday. That would work

You might appreciate my DOTS from today. Look at those factory tie offs. And that double handle tailgate!

I realize that I’m an elitist automotive hipster, but I’m not really all that excited about supercars at all. I’m much more interested in 70-80s cars that shouldn’t still exist but show up to C&C. It’s muich more iteresting to me to see how normal cars were back in the day than what hyper-expensive toys are now. Our ann ual Italian car show is really just 50% 90s-00s Ferraris and then just a few other makes off in the corner and it’s kinda disappointing from what it used to be.

Couple that with that fact that it seems like a lot of these youtube and instagram car spotting channels seem far more interested in supercars because of the wealth they represent rather than as actual cars.

I feel the same way. I don’t want to see fun sports/exotic/super cars parked in a parking lot. I want to see them out in the wild being enjoyed, whether it be on the street or at the track. Not being on display because other people want to see them up close. In my opinion it’s more special to let people catch your rare car in the wild when they didn’t expect it and I feel that’s where the pleasure lies.

chances of seeing a LaFerrari or Ape rta are nil due to LHD only. those sort of Ferrari never show up and car shows unless indoors or for the Grand Prix

McLaren 570/mp4-12C/540/650 are still special due to rarity here

The Gallardo was the 1st mass production super, so yea. If I see one that has a gated manual I’m a little more interested in it.

I knew someone who had several of these.  They eventually all rusted out so bad, they were no longer safe.  Engine wise, they kept running, but pretty much everything else rusted out around them.

Same here. There’s one a year that there’s a big car-related weekend, and there’s generally a few Lamborghini around then, but other than that, there’s not a lot around.  I did spot a Tesla Model S coming out of a Superstore parking lot the other day.  I still haven’t managed to track down and question the owner yet. :P

For me, seeing them out on the road is still special. Maybe not at local car meets , but I still love seeing - and hearing - them out and about. Until last year, I lived on the edge of the Texas Hill Country: an area that not only had high supercar ownership, but was becoming a trendy place for magazines and car shows to flog new supercars. I couple years ago I saw a couple of new Murcialagos being chased by a camera car as I was leaving my subdivision. I started to get desensitized to seeing them parked everywhere (unless it was something special - there was a local 348 in a gorgeous  blue over white that I used to see parked at Starbucks all the time and never got old), but I still got excited whenever I’d see a new McLaren, Ferrari or Lamborghini blast past me on roads as I left town even though it happened about once a week.

It’s true..When I go to cars & coffee tomorrow, I’ll walk right past 7 new Lamborghini’s to go look at a $15k 19 50's P ickup or street rod.

I definitely see more Ferrari and McLaren etc than Lamborghini in Bellevue. When I see a Lambo, I usually think “rental” shortly after.

I’ve seen a Countach on the road once, and it was out on the coast, of all places. It was black, and this was probably 20 or more years ago.
